Entries Sought for the California State
Fair
Commercial Cheese Competition
SACRAMENTO,
CA (April 9, 2007), The
California Exposition and State Fair
today announced that it is now accepting
entries for the 2007 Commercial Cheese
Competition. In 2004 alone, the economic
impact of the California Dairy industry
was $47 billion dollars and represented
more than 434,000 jobs statewide. With
annual competitions such as the Commercial
Cheese Competition, the California State
Fair highlights the role agricultural
commodities play in our economy and in
the livelihoods of many across the Golden
State.
The annual competition
features cheeses from a variety of commercial
cheese makers across the state. The commercial
cheese scorecard is broken down by flavor,
texture, finish and color. All Best of
Division and Best of Show winning cheeses
will be displayed in the California Foodstyle
Building at the California State Fair.
Entry
forms and fees must be received by May
23, 2007. Entry cheeses may be submitted
between May 29th and
June 1st to Expo Center, Building
6, located on the grounds of Cal Expo,
1600 Exposition Boulevard, Sacramento,
CA.
The
2007 judging will take place on June
6th at Cal Expo.
The judges include Dr. Moshe Rosenberg,
Professor and Specialist from the Department
of Food and Science and Technology, UC
Davis; Darrell Corti, renowned Food and
Wine Expert with Corti Brothers; Juliana
Uruburu, Cheese Department Manager at
Pasta Shop in Oakland; Margo True, Food
Editor of Sunset Magazine; Raymond Hook,
Wholesaler from The Cheese Works West;
Roxanne O'Brien, teacher and chef at American
River College; Lori Friedli, of the Sacramento
Natural Foods Co-op; and Les Woods and
Teri Mullen, from the California Department
of Food and Agriculture.
Competition
winners will be announced on
Thursday, July 12 at
the annual California Grape and Gourmet
food and wine tasting event at Cal Expo.
This popular event, open to the public,
is the largest tasting of award-winning
California wines. The California Grape
and Gourmet will also feature award-winning
micro-brews and more than 80 regional
restaurants. Visit the California State
